BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team battled back to level the match in the fourth quarter, but fell short of their third straight overtime, as MIT scored in the final five minutes, downing the Hawks, 3-2 on Bayside Field.
The Hawks struck first in the opening minute, when a foul gave
Hunter Phillips (Schuylerville, N.Y.) an opportunity on a penalty stroke, which she buried into the back of the net, taking a 1-0 lead for Roger Williams.
That lead lasted to the 9:44 mark of the contest, when Liberty Ladd scored for the Engineers to level the score at 1-1. In the second quarter, Ladd scored again after receiving a pass from Paige Forester.
The two teams played scoreless until the 54:28 mark of the contest, when
Brooklyn Cenatiempo (Trumbull, Conn.) expanded on her career record, scoring the 34
th goal of her collegiate career, after receiving a pass from
Morgan Foley (Hanover, Mass.) on the end line.
The lead would not last long, as the Engineers came right back scoring 1:14 later when Forester scored a goal for MIT to take a 3-2 lead.
Roger Williams (7-6, 1-3 CCC) will visit Manhattanville on Sunday, Oct. 16 for a 2:30 pm matchup, before hosting Connecticut College on Tuesday, Oct. 18 on Bayside Field.
