BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team swept Emerson on Wednesday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts, 9-0, on Senior Day.
At No. 1 doubles the senior pairing of
Emma Place (Francestown, N.H.) and
Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) defeated their opponents, 8-0, before
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) then closed out their No. 2 doubles match 8-1.
Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) and
Lily Creem (Manhasset, N.Y.) then closed out their contest in No. 3 doubles, 8-2, taking a 3-0 lead heading into singles competition.
Cahoon was the first to finish her match in singles play 6-0, 6-0 before Ferraro earned her No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the overall victory.
Place won the top singles match 6-1, 6-0 before
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) took No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1. Creem picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory before
Kate Hardy (Southington, Conn.) closed out the match with a 7-6, 6-3 win.
After the match the Hawks celebrated their three seniors, Cahoon, Creem and Place in a post-match ceremony, acknowledging them for their accomplishments and honoring their collegiate careers.
Roger Williams (12-1, 6-1 CCC) will host a CCC Tournament Semifinal on Thursday, Oct. 20, when they host the winner of the No. 6 at No. 3 match
