Field Hockey: Hawks Battle to Double OT in CCC Loss to Nor’Easters

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team battled league leading University of New England into double-overtime, but were unable to score during the two periods, falling to the Nor'Easters 2-1 Saturday at Bayside Field.

The Hawks outshot the Nor'Easters 29-9 in the tilt, with the UNE goalkeeper saving 17 shots.  The University of New England also earned 12 corners to the Hawks nine.

Roger Williams scored first when Sara Carney (Franklin, Mass.) was on the receiving end of a corner pass, Carney then found Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) open on the left side of the arch.  Duquette then fired a shot that edged the right side of the left post and into the back of the net, for a goal 2:08 into the second quarter.

After holding the Nor'Easters at bat in the third, they struck in the fourth, scoring when Madi Robito received a pass from Kate Lindmark, to level the score at 1-1.

In the first overtime period, the Hawks controlled play, outshooting the UNE squad 8-2, but the Nor'Easters stuck in the second overtime period with a goal 1:32 in, when Grace Bazin scored for the win.

Roger Williams (7-5, 1-3 CCC) will host MIT on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7 pm on Bayside Field, before traveling to Manhattanville on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 2:30 pm.
