BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's basketball team defeated Coast Guard, 106-71, in a non-conference matchup, Wednesday in the Campus Rec Center.
Will MacDonald (York, Maine) led the way for the Hawks with 16 points, hitting six of ten of his shots from the field, including four of five attempts from beyond the arch, with four rebounds and five assists.
Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) knocked down 50 percent of this shots with three rebounds, six Roger Williams players were in double figures.
Defensively the Hawks had two blocks, with
Sean Gogolin (Winchester, Mass.) and
Addie Phifer (Hadley, Mass.) each having a block in the game with eight Roger Williams players having recorded a steal.
The Hawks jumped out early, going up 17-1 in the opening 4:55 of play. The Bears then cut the lead down to nine, before the Hawks knocked down three pointers on three consecutive trips to take a 26-12 lead.
The Hawks ended the half with a 19-point lead, before again using hot shooting in the second half as they led by as many as 39 points in the second half, before a pair of layups by the Bears closed out the game.
Roger Williams (1-0, 0-0 CCC) will travel to Connecticut College on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2 pm for a non-conference contest against the Camels. Wheaton will then visit the Hawks on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 5 pm in the Campus Rec Center.
