How It Happened
After leading by seven at halftime, the Hawk offense stuttered in the second half, as RWU only put up 19 points in the period while shooting 9-of-31 from the field and only 1-of-14 from behind the arc.
The Hawks had a late rally in the first half to take control of the game. Trailing 16-21 with just over ten minutes to play in the period, Roger Williams rolled off 18 straight points over the following five minutes to take a 13-point lead.
John Ah Kao (Dumont, N.J.) capped off the run with a three-point play to make it 34-21 in favor of RWU. The Nor'Easters managed to chip away at the deficit, pulling within five at one point. Yet the Hawks went into halftime leading 41-34.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, their lead would disappear quick into the second half. After
Drew Hart (Cheshire, Conn.) hit a jumper on the first RWU possession, the Hawks would miss their next six shots and commit six turnovers over the next six minutes of play. UNE would take full advantage, scoring 16 unanswered points to turn a nine-point deficit into a seven-point lead.
RWU later managed to pull within two with 12:40 to play, but the offense continued to struggle, putting up only four points over the next six minutes. UNE was able to extend the lead to eight, then eventually going up by 11 with 4:02 left. The deficit was too much for the Hawks to overcome, as UNE earned their first win over Roger Williams since 2016.
