How It Happened
Matt Halpin (Hanover, Mass.) kicked off the game with a goal one minute in, followed by a tally by
Jack Kester (Londonderry, N.H.) five minutes later. JWU would get on the board 30 seconds later with a score by Joe McIntyre (Ballston Lake, N.Y.). Then with just under four minutes to play, Chris Calisto (Jericho, N.Y.) knotted up the contest at two apiece. However, Kester and Halpin each scored in the final three minutes to help RWU lead 4-2 after the opening quarter.
Roger Williams would break the game open in the second quarter, putting up five goals in the frame by five different players. Johnson & Wales managed to add two goals in the frame, but the Hawks would still go into halftime with a 9-4 lead.
Any hope of a comeback by Johnson & Wales were dashed by the Hawks in the third quarter. RWU scored six unanswered goals in the period for a 15-4 lead. JWU finally stopped the bleeding with a goal in the final minute of the third to make it a ten-goal deficit entering the fourth.
In the final period, Johnson & Wales managed to hold the Hawks to only one goal in the quarter while also logging three goals in the quarter. However, the hole was too far for the Wildcats to dig themselves out, as RWU secured the victory.
