How It Happened
Kendi Barnard (Bedford, N.H.) scored on RWU's opening possession before a three-pointer by Ashley Rourke (Londonderry, N.H.) and a basket by Morgan Shuey (Corning, Iowa) put Salve Regina up by three. The Seahawks held the lead for most of the early part of the first quarter until
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) broke a 10-10 tie with a free throw with 4:24 left in the opening quarter. Megan Henaghan (Whitman, Mass.) knotted the game up later at 13 before
Karli Opalka (Southbury, Conn.) sank a basket in the final minute to send RWU into the second quarter up 15-13.
In the second quarter, the Hawks broke the game open and never looked back. Briana Neary (Wayne, N.J.) hit a shot for Salve with 7:24 left in the half to make it a 17-19 game. That would be the final points scored by the Seahawks over the rest of the half as Roger Williams scored 14 unanswered points over the remainder of the quarter to turn their two-point lead into 16 going into halftime.
The blowout continued for Roger Williams into the third quarter. The Hawks outscored Salve Regina 23-7 in the period, holding the Seahawks to 3-of-10 shooting from the field and only four total rebounds. In the fourth, RWU's defense did similar work as the third, again allowing only three made baskets for Salve against ten shots. Though the Seahawk increased their point total to nine in the quarter, RWU still tallied 17 points in the period en route to the 40-point win.
