CLERMONT, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Softball team suffered a 1-5 defeat to North Central College Saturday evening in the team's second day of its spring break trip in Florida.

How It Happened
Weather issues in Florida pushed back the game's start time to 6:15 pm and canceled the team's scheduled game against York (Pa.).
 
After a scoreless top half of the first for RWU, North Central plated three runs in their half. Alyssa Sturino launched a solo home run to center, followed by a two-run blast to center by Breanna Adams to give the Cardinals an early lead. North Central added another run in the bottom of the second, when Jaime Smith drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 4-0.
 
The Hawks got on the board in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, Taylor Howell (Sandwich, Mass.) dropped in a fielder's choice to center to bring home Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.), with the center fielder making a force out at second to help curb the Hawks' rally.
 
Unfortunately for RWU, that would be the team's only run in the game, despite outhitting the Cardinals 10-6. The Hawks left runners stranded at all three bases in the fifth and runners at second and third in the sixth to stall their momentum. North Central tacked on one more score in the fourth for the 5-1 win.
