Hobin’s Outstanding Start In Florida Earns CCC Player Of The Week

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Senior infielder Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.) has torn the cover off the ball to start the year for the Roger Williams University Baseball team, and as a result, he was named Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week for the week of March 7th through March 13th, as it was announced by the conference offices on Monday. Hobin torched four extra-base hits among his five knocks across four contests, driving in nine runs along the way to propel the Hawks offense to 4-0 week in Florida.

Hobin is the first RWU baseball player to earn conference weekly recognition this season after the team earned four such honors last spring, three of which were CCC Player of the Week awards.

The middle infielder opened the weekend with a 1-for-4 day with one run scored against Mount Union on Friday but since then, he has hit everything in sight. He clobbered the Anna Maria pitching staff to the tune of two hits, both for extra bases, in four at-bats in addition to drawing a pair of walks while driving in a whopping six runs and scoring three more across the doubleheader against the Amcats on Saturday. His encore was just as impressive against St. Scholastica on Sunday as he recorded three RBI's for the third consecutive game while mashing another two extra-base hits and drawing a pair of free passes and came around to score three times in the 16-6 run-rule victory. That showing brought his accumulated stats on the week to 5-of-11 with two doubles, two triples, four walks, nine RBI's, and seven runs.

His nine runs driven in bring him to 11 on the season in just five games catapulting him to second in the CCC in that category trailing only Robert Dunkle of Gordon College who has plated 14 in twice as many games. In addition, his RBI total is just one shy of his total from the past two seasons combined as he drove in a total of a dozen runs across 36 games between his sophomore and junior campaigns. His extra-base hit total of six now leads the conference as well, and he is at minimum tied within the top-three in the CCC in doubles, triples, and home runs to this point this year.

Thus far this spring, Hobin is hitting at an absurd .533/.652/1.200 triple-slash and leads the squad among qualifiers in each of those statistics while also topping the CCC in slugging and ranking second in batting average and on-base among players with four or more games played thus far this season.
