How It Happened
Trinity held the momentum early on, scoring four goals over the first eight minutes of play from William Puccio (Garden City, N.Y.), Jake Baker (South Londonderry, Vt.), Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.), and Cullen Wolff (Maplewood, N.J.). The Hawks finally got on the board with 4:34 left in the opening quarter.
Matt Halpin (Hanover, Mass.) and
Noah Ravas (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) each added goals before the end of the period to bring RWU within one.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, the defense fell apart in the second and third quarters while the offense completely stalled. Trinity logged eight goals in the second and six in the third, while the Hawks were not only held without a goal over that stretch, but managed only five combined shots in both periods. RWU faced a 21-3 deficit entering the final quarter.
Ryan Phillips (Hanover, Mass.) ended the drought for the Hawks a minute into the fourth, while
Tim Mullane (Hanover, Mass.) logged RWU's final goal of the game with 3:47 left. Trinity added insult to injury with three more scores in the frame.
