CLERMONT, Fla. – Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) provided a walk-off for the Roger Williams University Softball team as they salvaged a win in a 1-2 day to wrap up their Spring Break trip at Hancock Park on Thursday. The Hawks suffered tough losses to Beloit College, 5-2, in nine innings in game one and then fell 1-0 to Millikin University before Provencal's heroics lifted RWU to a 9-8 win over Knox College to wrap up the busy day.
With their 1-2 performance, Roger Williams returns to Bristol standing at 2-6 on the season.
The pitching staff for the Hawks generally impressed in all three games.
Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, Mass.) twirled five innings of one-run ball in game one then
Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) matched her efforts in a complete game showing in game two before she added some strong work in relief in the third contest. However, Nocella did not factor into the decision and Fleming took the tough-luck loss in game two, falling to 0-3 on the season.
Nicole Corey (Dighton, Mass.) bookended the day with relief outings getting tagged with the loss in game one but then getting the victory in game three to move to 1-2 on the campaign.

How It Happened
Roger Williams was the designated home team in their first game of the day, and the first seven innings of the contest breezed by in rather uneventful fashion.
Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, Mass.) ripped through the first five innings for RWU allowing just one run while striking out four. She did surrender a run in the fourth when Kaitlynn Taft (Greendale, Wis.) poked a single back through the box to plate Isabel Johnson (Austin, Texas).
The Hawks responded in the sixth as
Maddie Predaris (Rye, N.H.) led off with a double and two batters later,
Bay Naples (Livingston, N.J.) brought her home on a single through and into center.
Heading into extra innings where international rules were being utilized on this day, thus giving each team a runner on second to begin the inning. The two squads traded runs in the first extra frame. Sydney Harbison (Beloit, Wis.) brought Briana Arteaga (Covina, Calif.) across the plate with a line-drive single to left. Predaris would dig in to lead off the home half and she plated the run with a double to right center, tying the score, and she represented the winning run but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.
Beloit, now facing RWU freshman
Nicole Corey (Dighton, Mass.) who enter the game in relief back in the sixth, loaded the bases with no one out in the ninth by way of a couple of infield singles. Corey forced a lineout to left for the first out and nearly got out number two in the same fashion to right, however,
Casey Uryga (Berlin, Conn.) could not squeeze it allowing the run to score. An RBI ground out and a run scoring on a passed ball brought home two more runs for Beloit and they would make it stand in the bottom half to claim the win.

How It Happened
Game two was another very quick moving game. Roger Williams played as the designated road team in the contest and got an excellent start from
Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) as she allowed just one run across six frames.
Millikin scored the lone run of this one in the fourth when Cassie Reed (Bethalto, Ill.) led off with a single and was sacrificed to second. Grace Biondo (Naperville, Ill.) would take advantage with a single up the middle to give the Blue the lead.
The Hawks' top scoring opportunity came in the top of the fifth as
Alex Burdick (Jewett City, Conn.) drew a leadoff walk and
Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) did the same two batters later.
Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, Mass.) ripped a single to left and Burdick tried to come but a fantastic throw by Biondo would deny RWU of the potential tying run.

How it Happened
Roger Williams wrapped up their busy day of action by serving as the designated home team against Knox College and they would end their Spring Break trip on a high note. It would be a back-and-forth affair featuring four ties and two lead changes but it was the Hawks who jumped in front in the bottom of the first inning.
Maddie Predaris (Rye, N.H.) blasted a double over the left fielder's head to score
Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) from second to grab the early edge.
Knox tied the score with an unearned run in the top of the second before RWU reclaimed the lead in the bottom half.
Bay Naples (Livingston, N.J.) led off with a double, and was pinch run for by
Caroline Thomas (Cranston, R.I.). She advanced on an error that also allowed
Taylor Howell (Sandwich Mass.) to reach base, then Thomas came home on a single by
Madison Tobin (Pittsfield, Mass.). Provencial would bring home her first run of the day in the form of Howell with another single and the Hawks held a 3-1 advantage.
The Prairie Fire got the score even again in the top of the fourth as Britney Salinas (Lindenwood, Ill.) hit a wall-scraper of a home run to dead center for a two-run shot. Once again, RWU responded in the home half of the inning.
Isabelle Rosado (Central Islip, N.Y.) hit a single with two away and that set the stage for Predaris again and she delivered with her second two-bagger of the game, scoring Rosario all the way from first, putting the Hawks in front, 4-3.
Roger Williams got a little distance with a pair in the fifth.
Alex Burdick (Jewett City, Conn.) drew a leadoff free pass and Thomas singled ahead of Howell. She would double in Burdick and two batters later a Tobin SAC fly made the advantage 6-3.
A Burdick sacrifice fly would make the lead four in the sixth, but things got interesting in the seventh. After the first out was recorded, the next five consecutive Knox College batters singled, scoring three runs in the process. In response,
Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) was relieved by
Nicole Corey (Dighton, Mass.) who uncorked a wild pitch put the tying run at third and the go ahead run at second and both of those runs would cross the plate on an RBI groundout and an error putting Knox in front, 8-7.
Trailing for the first time all game, RWU wasted little time grabbing the win. Howell and
Francesca Cioffi (Brewster, N.Y.) led off with back-to-back singles and each of them were pinch run for by
Casey Uryga (Berlin, Conn.) and
Jax Beaulieu (Sandwich, Mass.). Now in great position to score with two on and still no one out, Tobin evened things with a single setting the stage for Provencal. She would reach on an error by the third baseman, allowing Beaulieu to come home and lifting Roger Williams to the win.
What's Next
Roger Williams will return to New England and play their first game in the northeast this season when they host Coast Guard on Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader. Game one is set for 2:30 PM.
