How It Happened
A goal by
Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) at the 9:43 mark helped kick-started the Hawk run in the first quarter. She,
Nikki Norton (Braintree, Mass.), and
Karli Chapin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) combined for the four goals for Roger Williams in the first quarter. Delaney Langton (Scituate, R.I.) squeezed in a score for the Bears, but the Hawks still went into the second quarter leading 4-1.
Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) logged three consecutive goals for the Hawks to help put RWU up 7-1 with 3:58 left to play in the first half. Langton ended the run for RWU with a scored with 1:40 left, yet one more tally by Cunningham with 41 seconds left helped preserve the seven-goal lead for the Hawks entering the break.
The Hawks put on an offensive clinic in the third quarter, logging seven goals in the frame. Cunningham and
Emma Terino (East Meadow, N.Y.) both scored twice in the quarter to give RWU a 15-3 lead entering the final period, in which RWU added three more goals between Cunningham and
Julia Kelley (Foxborough, Mass.).
