How It Happened
The Hawk offense and defense were working on all cylinders in the first quarter. Ryan Phillips (Hanover, Mass.), Jared Grier (Quincy, Mass.), and Noah Ravas (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) all scored in the opening period to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead after one. On the defensive end, RWU held the Fighting Scots to only two total shots in the period.

After a Ryan Vendetti (Farmington, Conn.) halfway into the second quarter, Gordon managed to get on the board with back-to-back scores from Marco Fernandez (Fishkill, N.Y.) and Noah Thies (Malvern, Pa.). However a late goal by Brian Gazard (Ashland, Mass.) in the final seconds helped give RWU a 6-2 lead entering halftime.

The Hawks would extend the lead to seven after a Matt Halpin (Hanover, Mass.) man-up goal and two straight scores by Ravas, making it 9-2 with 5:17 left in the period. Kobi Bui (Harleysville, Pa.) ended the run for the Hawks with a man-up goal but Grier would get that tally back for RWU with nine seconds left in the period.

Holding a 10-3 lead going into the fourth, RWU continued to keep the pressure on Gordon throughout the final quarter, adding three more scores in the frame. In all, it was a solid effort on both ends of the field as the Hawk defense forced 25 turnovers in the game while Max Kimmel (Milford, Conn.) stopped 12 shots.
