How It Happened
It was the Stephen McAllister (Floral Park, N.Y.) show early on in this one for Salve Regina as he opened the scoring just over two and a half minutes in for the hosts.
Jared Grier (Quincy, Mass.) evened things while the players on the field were uneven, netting a man-up goal about 90 seconds later but McAllister would score two of the Seahawks next three goals to record a hat-trick in the first quarter alone.
Noah Ravas (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) mixed in a goal for the Hawks, but they trailed 4-2 after one.
Liam Cooney (Portsmouth, R.I.) got in on the fun for the hosts scoring the first of his five goals to open the scoring in the second frame. A Brendan Laundry (Swampscott, Mass.) goal got the lead to four, but the guests would take momentum into the locker room by scoring twice within the final two minutes courtesy of
Ryan Phillips (Hanover, Mass.) and
Matt Halpin (Hanover, Mass.).
SRU would bury Roger Williams out of the half, however as Pat Leary (Wakefield, Mass.) got things going less than a minute in to spark a 6-1 stretch to open the lead up to 12-5. During that span, both Leary and Cooney found the back of the net twice and while Phillips ended the run, McAllister concluded the quarter with a score to make the score 13-6.
After another score by Leary and two more from Cooney got the host's advantage to double-digits, the Hawks offense did finally find some traction scoring the final four goals of the contest, but it was too little, too late.
