How It Happened
A strong start for Roger Williams helped push the Hawks to a comfortable early lead. Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) scored 19 seconds into the game, with Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.) adding another goal three minutes later. Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine) and Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) combined for three goals over the next five minutes to help RWU take a 5-0 lead.

Colby would not go down quietly, ending the first quarter with three goals over the final six minutes from Annie Eddy (Cheshire, Conn.), Elizabeth Hennessey (Hingham, Mass.), and Grace Toner (Weston, Conn.). Julia Jardina (Louisville, Ky.) pulled Colby within one with a goal three minutes into the second quarter. However, back-to-back goals by Beck and Sarazin put RWU back up by three. The Hawks would eventually take a 7-5 lead going into halftime.

Goals from Cunningham and Sarazin to open the third quarter extended the RWU lead to four. Yet the Mules tacked on two more goals in the the quarter, pulling Colby within three entering the fourth.

Karli Chapin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) scored for RWU to build the advantage back up to four. Colby was able to add two more goals to make it a 10-12 game with 3:17 left to play. However the Hawk defense held off the Mules over the remainder of the game, with Chapin adding an insurance goal in the last minute to earn the win.
