The Roger Williams University Baseball team had a huge bounce-back week to re-acquire a top-25 ranking nationally in the latest set of polls as they were announced on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Hawks moved up two slots from last week in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper ranking and now sit at #24 in the nation while they continue to receive votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)/D3Baseball.com national poll. Regionally, RWU is ranked third in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) poll and New England Baseball Journal (NEBJ) rankings.
Â
Following a disappointing previous week that saw them go 0-2-1 in some crucial Commonwealth Coast Conference games, the Hawks rebounded last week sweeping their four contests, beating up on Curry and Keene State in their mid-week games before taking a pair against Western New England University on Saturday. As a result, RWU now stands at 21-3-1 on the season, good for their best 25-game start in program history. Their win percentage rose to .860 on the year, the fifth best in the nation and second-best in the region.
Â
The team's strong record is reinforced by some impressive cumulative team stats that reflect a pitching staff and lineup that is among the best in the nation. On the mound, RWU is seventh in hits allowed per nine (7.39), 12
th in strikeouts per nine (10.6), 16
th in ERA (3.55), and 26
th in WHIP. Meanwhile, the offense is 25
th in steals per game (2.72). 31
st in scoring (9.3), 40
th in OBP (.429), tied for 45
th in total steals (68), and tied for 46
th in total walks drawn (148).
