How It Happened
The Hawks struck early, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after
Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.),
Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine), and
Brooke McErlain (Hampton, N.H.) netted goals within one minute of each other. The Nor'Easters got on the board after Kelsey Hartigan (Tyngsboro, Mass.) scored with
Nikki Norton (Braintree, Mass.) in the penalty box after she received a yellow card. With just under five minutes remaining,
Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) cashed in her 33
rd of the season before McErlain scored with a minute remaining giving RWU the 5-1 lead heading into the second quarter.
Beck once again raced down the field, scoring 40 seconds into the frame. Morgan White (Rochester, N.H.) scored a minute later to keep UNE at a four-goal deficit. McErlain then went on a tear, netting a trio of goals in a three-minute stretch to boost the lead to seven. Anna Stowell (Sutton, N.H.) scored in an attempt to keep the hosts within range, but McErlain went back on the offensive scoring another pair.
Kimmy Creegan (Ramsey, N.J.) got in on the fun, notching the first goal of her rookie campaign. Hartigan and Cavanaugh traded goals over the last four minutes as the Hawks led 13-4 heading into the second half.
Just like each of the last two quarters, the visitors scored first, as Sarazin opened up the action before
Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) tallied the Hawks 15
th off a free position attempt. After six minutes,
Mia Pantano (Reading, Mass.) also notched a free position goal before Abby McHallam (Medway, Mass.) closed out the scoring, giving the Nor'Easters their fifth goal.
The final 15 minutes went much like the first 45. Cavanaugh scored after four and a half minutes of back-and-forth action. McHallam netted her second of the contest before a trio of goals would be scored by
Ella Waryas (Foxboro, Mass),
Karli Chapin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), and Cavanaugh to close out the contest with the Hawks on top 20-6.
