BIDDEFORD, Maine – Chris Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) fanned a career-high 14 Wentworth Leopards for the Roger Williams University Baseball team to collect Commonwealth Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week recognition for the week of April 18
th through April 24
th, as it was announced by the conference offices on Monday. The fifth year righty dominated with two-thirds of the outs he recorded coming by way of a K, while only allowing a single unearned run.
Following a First Team All-CCC season as the Hawks closer last spring, Flynn has made a seamless transition to the rotation, as signified by earning conference weekly recognition for the first time in his career in Bristol. He is the third member of the RWU Baseball team to earn a weekly award from the CCC, and the second to win pitcher of the week after
Justin Garcia (Foxborough, Mass.) got it for the week of March 21
st through March 27
th.
Flynn dominated the Leopards in his start on Saturday, allowing a mere five baserunners, three with hits, one with a hit by pitch, and one by way of an error, across seven innings of work. He allowed one run though it was unearned, striking out 14 batters, three more than his previous career high. It is also the third-most by an RWU pitcher in a single game in program-history trailing just Garcia who has fanned 15 on two occasions.
Flynn is the team leader in wins at 6-1 on the year, pitching to a 2.20 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP that ranks tenth in the nation. His 14.00 K/9 also ranks 16
th in Division-III Baseball while opponents hit just .183 against him.
