Baseball Rises to #21 Nationally, Remains #3 Regionally In Weekly Polls

Riding a seven-game winning streak at the time of the polls, the Roger Williams University Baseball team rose three spots in the national rankings as they were announced on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Hawks moved up to #21 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper national ranking and continue to receive votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)/D3Baseball.com national poll. Regionally, RWU retained their number-three ranking in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) and New England Baseball Journal (NEBJ) rankings.

At the time of the polls, RWU sat at 24-3-1 following an unblemished week that saw them mash Wesleyan and sweep a doubleheader against Wentworth. That gave them an .870 win percentage, a mark that is the third best in the nation thus far this season. With their Monday win over UMass-Boston, the Hawks have now rattled off eight consecutive wins. In addition, they are an outstanding 16-1 when they have played nonconference opponents, picking up wins over the now #4 regionally ranked Babson and a pair of wins over #5 UMass-Boston.

The RWU Baseball team is now in the midst of quite possibly their most important week thus far, and they got off to a strong start by beating UMass-Boston on Monday but now battle #9 regionally ranked Salve Regina on Wednesday and then the #2/#4 nationally ranked Eastern Connecticut State team for one game on Thursday and then a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Hawks are littered throughout the national statistical leaderboards. Offensively they are 12th, scoring 9.9 runs per game while they also possess a team ERA of just 3.49 to rank 16th. They are one of just four teams in the nation to rank in the top-25 in both of those statistics.
