How It Happened
A leadoff double by the Corsairs would set the tone for the day as the Corsairs would notch three runs in the first inning. Larissa Piessens (Windham, N.H.), who tallied the first hit, would be brought home on a double by Lindsay Chubbuck (Berkley, Mass.). Hailey Lyons (Hayden, Idaho) would then post UMD's third double of the inning, bringing home two baserunners for the early 3-0 lead. After the rough first inning, it appeared that starter Nicole Corey (Dighton, Mass.) settled in. Although she allowed three more hits, she did not give up a run over the next two innings, and escaped a bases loaded with no outs jam in the second. Offensively, RWU struggled to light a spark as over the first three innings, they could only muster two hits coming off the bats of Madison Tobin (Pittsfield, Mass.), and Maddie Predaris (Rye, N.H.) respectively.

The fourth inning is where the game unraveled for the home squad. The Hawks utilized three different pitchers in an inning that saw the Corsairs rack up 11 runs off nine hits and four errors. The bottom of the fourth was more of the same for RWU as Alexandra Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) would be the only one to collect a hit for the hosts.

UMD would conclude their offensive output with two more runs in the fifth, capping off the 16-0 run rule victory.
