BIDDEFORD, Maine – Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) of the Roger Williams University Baseball team went on a rampage, mashing five home runs to secure Commonwealth Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the week of May 2
nd through May 8
th, as it was announced by the conference offices on Monday. Among his power surge was a three-homerun game in the second game of the Hawks doubleheader against Gordon, making him the first in program history to hit three longballs in a single contest.
A junior transfer, Flynn was in a slump before busting out this week to net the honors and in doing so, he was the second RWU baseball player to receive CCC Offensive Player of the Week recognition, after
Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.) got it for the week of March 7
th through March 13
th. Four total Hawks have been recognized this spring as
Justin Garcia (Foxborough, Mass.) and the other
Chris Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) each got Pitcher of the Week once.
Flynn enjoyed a quality mid-week slate of games, getting off his skid with a three-run homer last Tuesday and then added a double on Thursday but he really exploded in the team's doubleheader against Gordon over the weekend. In game one, he connected on his second home run of the week as a part of a 2-4 showing and then her went yard not once, not twice, but three times in the second contest of the twin bill. His three home runs were the most in a single game in program history and his five runs scored matched the program-high mark. He finished the week posting a triple-slash of .444/.500/1.333 and was even a menace on the basepaths, stealing three bases.
Despite his slow mid-season stretch, Flynn still ranks 25
th in the CCC in batting average at .323 and his .624 slugging is eighth. His eight home runs rank tied for sixth in the conference, but he has done most of his damage in the games that matter most, with seven of his longballs coming in CCC play, the second-most of all players in the conference. He also has 14 steals this season, a number that ranks fifth.
