WORCESTER, Mass. – The Roger Williams University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute field hockey teams clashed in the first contest of the 2022 season for both squads, with the Hawks coming out victorious over the Engineers, 2-1.
WPI out shot Roger Williams 10-8 over the course of the contest, but the Hawks were able to put seven of their eight shots on goal to the Engineers five shots on goal.
Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, Md.) picked up her first collegiate win in the cage.
Midway through the second quarter,
Sara Carney (Franklin, Mass.) fired a shot towards the net that the WPI's Nini Acquista repelled back. But

In the third quarter, holding a 1-0 lead the Hawks struck again, this time off the stick of

Hunter Phillips (Schuylerville, N.Y.), which put Timbrouck one-on-one with the goalie, and was able to pass the netminder into the right of the net.
In the final frame, WPI's Natalie Mohn scored a goal, in the final second of play, to finish the scoring.
Roger Williams (1-0, 0-0 CCC) picked up their first win under first year head coach
