BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team came out of the gate showing promise, defeating Simmons, 9-0 in a non-conference dual match at the Roger Williams Tennis Courts.
The Hawks came out with the second doubles pairing of
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) picking up the first point of the match with a 8-0 win.
Emma Place (Francestown, N.H.) and
Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) also picked up an 8-0 win in first doubles followed by
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and
Kate Hardy (Southington, Conn.) in second doubles.
Leading 3-0 heading into singles play, Santoro finished with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in fifth singles, before Ferraro earned her second doubles victory in the same manner to clinch the win.
Place and Pecora each finished with a 6-0, 6-0 win of their own in the respective matches before McCarthy and
Lily Creem (Manhasset, N.Y.) completed the sweep with victories of their own.
Roger Williams (1-0, 0-0 CCC) will face the Hawks of Saint Anselm on Monday, Sept. 5 in a 1 pm match in Manchester, N.H. The women's tennis team will then play at Regis on Thursday, Sept. 8 against the Pride.
