WORCESTER, Mass. – The Roger Williams University men's soccer team defeated Clark, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Granger Field.
The Hawks had 17 shot attempts, placing nine shots on target, to the Cougars seven shots on target out of their 14 attempts taken towards Roger Williams goalkeeper,
Hogan Cain (Nottingham, N.H.).
Clark was the first team to make it onto the scoreboard, scoring 2:10 into the second half, after both teams were held scoreless in the first. The Hawks evened the matchup with a goal scored by
Justin Horvath (Stratford, Conn.) off a pass by
Javi Beltran (Madrid, Spain).
Just under five minutes later Beltran scored his first goal of the season as Horvath picked up the helper. In the 79
th minute
Jason Salley (Durham, Conn.) broke onto the score sheet scoring off of a set piece giving the Hawks a 3-1 lead.
A goal by the Cougars in the 84
th minute rounded out the scoring, with the Hawks holding on for the victory.
Roger Williams (2-0-2, 0-0-0 CCC) will travel to Cambridge, Mass. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 to face MIT. The Hawks will then begin Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play against the University of New England Saturday, Sept. 17.
