MILTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team picked up their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory of the 2022-23 season on Wednesday, as the Hawks defeated the Colonels 9-0 at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts.
In doubles action the third doubles pairing of
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and
Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) completed their match, winning 8-0.
Emma Place (Francestown, N.H.) and
Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) then 8-0 their opponents in first doubles, before
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) closed out doubles play, completing an 8-0 win in their second doubles match.
Cahoon won her third singles match 6-0, 6-1, before Pecora earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory to clinch the match.
Ferraro earned a 6-0, 6-1 win before Santoro picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory in sixth singles to go up 7-0. Roger Williams' McCarthy, and Place closed out the match with wins in fourth and first singles play respectively.
Roger Williams (4-0, 0-0 CCC) will host Bridgewater State on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 4 pm on the RWU Tennis Courts. The Hawks then host their first CCC match on Saturday, Sept. 17 against Gordon.
