MANSFIELD, Conn. — The Roger Williams University field hockey team picked up a non-conference win on Wednesday, defeating Eastern Connecticut State 2-1 at Rick McCarthy Field.
Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, Md.) made four saves in the match, while the Hawks out shot the Warriors 11-6 and 10-5 in shots on goal. The two squads were even in penalty corners with six corners each.
Roger Williams struck first in the opening quarter as
Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) scored her fifth goal of the season 7:28 into the game. The Hawks fired four shots in the opening frame while also holding Eastern Connecticut State to a lone shot.
In the second quarter,
Sara Carney (Franklin, Mass.) fed a pass through to
Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) for Rocheleau's first goal of the season. Coming off a penalty corner from
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.).
In the third quarter, the Warriors struck to bring the score when Kaylee Drobish fired a shot into the back of the net from Emma Sanson. The Hawks then closed out the final 22:29 holding off the Warrior offense for the 2-1 victory.
Roger Williams (5-1, 0-1 CCC) will travel to Springfield, Mass. on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 6 pm. The Hawks will then host Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 4 pm.
