BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University men's soccer team remained unbeaten in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play Saturday, defeating Gordon 2-0 Saturday on Bayside Field.
The Hawks outshot the Fighting Scots 8-5, with five shots landing on net, while also earning four corner kick opportunities.
The Hawks broke through in the first half after
Justin Horvath (Stratford, Conn.) received a pass from
Javi Beltran (Madrid, Spain) in front of the Fighting Scots goalkeeper, after Horvath had his initial shot saved, Horvath recovered the rebound, and put his second shot past Gunnar Lucuk.
Gordan had a pair of opportunities in the final 5:06 of play, but both shots were saved by Roger Williams'
Jack Avellar (Orleans, Mass.) who maintained the blank sheet.
In the second half, Roger Williams struck again when,
John Fogarty (Scituate, Mass.) split a pair of defenders on a pass to
John McCarthy (Hampstead, N.H.). McCarthy then fired a shot across the goal mouth, into the net.
Roger Williams (6-1-2, 2-0-0 CCC) will travel to take on Bridgewater State on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 3:30 pm. The Hawks will then continue their CCC slate on Saturday, Oct. 1 opening the month with a matchup in Boston against Suffolk.
