BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Roger Williams University men's soccer team used a goal by
Javi Beltran (Madrid, Spain) to down Bridgewater State 1-0 in non-conference play Tuesday evening at Swenson Field.
The Hawks were out shot 18-15, but placed 10 of their attempts on net to the Bears seven. Goalkeeper
Hogan Cain (Nottingham, N.H.) made six saves in the match, while the squad earned eight corner kicks on the offensive end.
After playing each other scoreless in the first half, Roger Williams got on the scoreboard after
Christian Aja (Monroe, Conn.) sent a long pass to the top of the box, that
Niall Shea (Portsmouth, R.I.) headed on for Beltran, that Beltran put inside the right post for his fifth goal of the season.
The Hawks were able to keep the Bears off the scoreboard as they earned their seventh shutout of the season, including five shutout wins.
Roger Williams (7-1-2, 2-0-0 CCC) will travel to Boston on Saturday, Oct. 1 to face Suffolk in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. The Hawks will then face Rhode Island College on Tuesday, Oct. 4 before rounding out their four-straight road contests on Saturday, Oct. 8 against Wentworth.
