Women’s Volleyball: Roger Williams Earns Pair of Wins Saturday at Brandeis Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday, defeating Worcester State 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-19) and Colby-Sawyer 3-1 (25-17, 25-19, 25-20).
 
In the first game of the day against the Lancers, the Hawks were led by Jasmine Babbitt (Charlestown, R.I.) and Ella Hohmann (Bethpage, N.Y.) with six assists. Babbitt also had five blocks in the contest, while Samantha Johnson (Winchester, Va.) had 10 assists.  Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) also had nine assists.
 
With Worcester State holding a 20-16 lead in the first set, the Hawks then scored five straight points, to take the lead before, battling the Lancers toa 22-22 tie.  The Hawks then rattled off three straight to close the set.
 
In the second set, Roger Williams scored a point off of a kill by Kristen Danserau (Killingworth, Conn.) and scored again after an attack error by the Lancers to take a 22-20 lead.  Angela Colonis, broke a potential tun with a kill for the Lancers, before the Hawks scored three straight to end the frame.
 
In the third set, the Hawks took an early lead and never looked back, as they closed out the contest.
 
In game two against Colby Sawyer, Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) led the way with 13 kills, while Bosco recorded a double-double with 15 assists and 13 digs.
 
After taking the first set, Roger Williams trailed 13-11 in the second set, but the Hawks, scored eight straight points, taking the lead and maintaining it to the end of the set.
 
After the Chargers battled back in the third set, the Hawks closed out the match in the fourth, taking the lead with a score of 6-5 and never looking back.
 
Roger Williams (2-1, 0-0 CCC) will host Tufts and Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday, Sept. 6 in the Campus Rec Center, in the Hawks' home opener.
