BEVERLY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University men's basketball team trailed by four entering halftime, before eventually falling, 80-62, at Endicott Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.
Will MacDonald (York, Maine) led all scorers with 20 points in the matchup, pairing that with eight rebounds and a pair of assists.
Nate Lopes (Scituate, Mass.) and
Ty Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.) both had 12 points in the tilt, with Lopes pulling down six boards and dishing out three assists, while both players picked up a steal.
For Endicott Jeff Hill led the team with 19 points going 7-12 from the field, with Jalen Echevarria tallying 16 points. The Gulls also had 14 steals in the contest along with three blocks defensively.
The Gulls jumped out to an 11-point lead just over 8:30 into the matchup, when Hill knocked down a pair of free throws. The Hawks responded on the other side of the court with
Philip Sughrue (Winchester, Mass.) drilling a three pointer, to cut the deficit to eight. After getting another stop, Higgins came down the floor to knock down a three.
The Hawks shrunk cut the deficit to two, trailing 23-21, with 7:52 remaining when
John Ah Kao (Dumont, N.J.) converted on a lay in attempt. The Gulls took a 35-31 lead into the halftime break.
The Gulls shot 64.3 percent from the field in the second half, as they outscored the Hawks 45-31. The gulls also knocked down 40 percent of their three-point attempts in the second half, as they took over for the win.
Roger Williams (9-6, 6-2 CCC) will host Wentworth in CCC play on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 7:30 pm in the Campus Rec Center. The Hawks will then travel to Milton, Mass. for a 3 pm tilt with Curry.
