SOUTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team defeated the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth, 9-1, on Tuesday evening at Cressy Field.
The Hawks took control early, putting up 11 shots in the opening quarter, as they earned a 45-1 lead in that category. The Hawks put 28 of those shots on target, with the Corsairs only having one. The Hawks also had 11 penalty corners in the match.
Kelsie Couto made 18 saves in the contest for UMass Dartmouth.
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) had a pair of goals and an assist, with
Lily Tobin (Sandwich, Mass.) sporting the same stat line with three shots, all of which landed on target.
Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) added a pair of goals, with the Hawks seeing six different goal scorers.
In the opening quarter,
Abigail Stevens (Brewster, Mass.) was the first to strike with her fifth goal of the season in the sixth minute of action. At the 10-minute mark, Timbrouck added a goal to take a 2-0 lead. Just over 2:31 later, King scored her first goal of the game, and 18
th of the season after being on the receiving end of a ball from Tobin.
King scored again, just over three minutes into the second frame, before Tobin added one more goal with Tobin adding another to close out the match, taking a 5-0 lead.
After the Corsairs, struck with Kaylie Pereira scoring her first goal of the game 50 seconds into the first half, the Hawks added two goals in quick succession over a span of 43 seconds in with
Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) and Timbrouck scoring in that time frame. The Hawks would score twice before holding UMass Dartmouth scoreless the remaining quarter.
Roger Williams (11-2, 3-0 CCC) will travel to face the University of New England on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 12:00 pm at Blue Bolt Field, before facing Connecticut College on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 pm. The Hawks will be on the road for one more road contest at MIT before hosting Gordon on Friday, Oct. 27 at 4:00 pm for Senior Day.
