Men’s Soccer: Hawks Dominate Play, Down Bison in CCC Matchup

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University men's soccer team picked up a key Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory on Tuesday afternoon, downing the Bison of Nichols College, 1-0, on the Nichols Soccer Field.
 
The Hawks held a 22-12 edge in shots in the match, with nine of those attempts landing on target, to the Bison's two. The Hawks also held a 7-1 edge in corner kick attempts. Dylan Thomas (Norwalk, Conn.) had a pair of shots on target, with Jason Salley (Durham, Conn.) and Jack Wildermann (Madison, Conn.) each having a shot on target. Eight Roger Williams' players had a shot within the frame. In net, Hogan Cain (Nottingham, N.H.) made a pair of saves to keep the clean sheet.
 
After the two teams played 10 minutes in the match, the Hawks were the first to attempt a shot, as Liam Blaisdell (Plymouth, Mass.) put the first shot of the game on target, as Nichols Franco Barreto Santana made the save. The Hawks then fired four more shots on target over the following 10 minutes of play, all saved by the Bison goalkeeper.
 
Cain got his first action in the 23rd minute when William Pugliese-Savage put a shot into the center of the net, forcing Cain to make the pick up for the Hawks. In the 42nd minute of action, Max Patenaude (Pepperell, Mass.) making a run into the left corner of the field, firing a cross across finding the foot of a sliding foot of Ewen Noble (Newport, R.I.) who put the ball into the bottom left corner of the net, taking a 1-0 lead into the half.
 
In the second half, the Hawks held the Bison to only four shot attempts, as they secured the win.
 
Roger Williams (4-4-6, 2-1-1 CCC) will host the University of New England on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3:00 pm.  The Hawks will then be on the road Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 pm at Gordon for a CCC match.  The Hawks will round out their regular season slate with a pair of home contests on Saturday, Oct. 21 against Wentworth and Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Suffolk.
