BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's soccer team earned a victory over the University of New England Saturday afternoon on Bayside Field, 1-0, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tilt.
The University of New England struggled to generate offense throughout the match, with only two shots in total, one of which was on target. Roger Williams, on the other hand, displayed a more aggressive approach, tallying 16 shots with nine of them on goal. Sean McCarthy and Ollie Hammond, combined for seven saves in the match five crucial saves, while the
Hogan Cain (Nottingham, N.H.) keeper had to make only one save.
Roger Williams managed to break the deadlock in the 15th minute when
Liam Blaisdell (Plymouth, Mass.) found the back of the net.
Max Patenaude (Pepperell, Mass.) provided the assist for Blaisdell's seventh goal of the season, which was the eventual decider in the match.
The Hawks took six shot attempts in the second half, while the defense was able to stifle the Nor'easter offense, holding the University of New England off the scoreboard.
Roger Williams (5-4-6, 3-1-1 CCC) will face Gordon on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 pm in Wenham, Mass. The Hawks will then host Wentworth on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 3:00 pm for a Senior Day matchup on Homecoming & Family Weekend.
