NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team fell to the Camels of Connecticut College on Wednesday afternoon at Silfen Field, 3-0.
The Hawks were out shot 12-10 in the match with seven of their shots landing on target. The Hawks led in penalty corners 6-5.
In the first quarter, Roger Williams took a 1-0 lead, when Kelly Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) found Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) who fired a shot into the back of the net. The Hawks would hold the Camels scoreless in the opening 30 minutes, heading into the halftime break with the lead.
In the third quarter, the Camels struck twice, just 1:22 apart, the first coming off an assist by Sydney Cresta, who found Bridget McGann. The Hawks faced an onslaught in front of the net in the third with six shots on target. Cresta then scored a goal of her own to round out the quarter.
Cresta assisted on a goal by Rowan Galanis in the final frame of the match, but the Hawks scored off a goal by Sara Carney (Franklin, Mass.) who cut the deficit down to one, but Connecticut College held on for the win.
Roger Williams (11-4, 3-1 CCC) will travel to face MIT on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 6:00 pm, before hosting CCC opponent Gordon for Senior Day on Friday, Oct. 27 at 4:00 pm.
