DUDLEY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team saw their championship season come to a close on Thursday afternoon, falling to the Bison of Nichols College, 5-3, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinals.
This is the Hawks second straight loss to the Bison in the CCC Semifinals, and their 19th straight CCC Semifinals appearance.
In doubles action, Antonia Carrero and Charis Vogler defeated their opponents 8-2 at the top spot, before Nichols went up 2-0 in the match with an, 8-1, win at No. 3 doubles. The Hawks picked up their first win of the match at No. 2 doubles, where Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) earned an 8-5 victory.
Trailing 2-1 heading into singles play, the Bison took a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, before the Hawks responded with a win by Santoro in No. 5 singles, cutting the lead back down to one. The Hawks then dropped a match when Vogler, earned the fourth point of the match for the Bison.
Roger Williams earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory by Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) who finished her season unbeaten on the year, before Johanna Schroeder clinched the match for the Bison at No. 2 singles.
Roger Williams (11-4, 4-2 CCC) end their fall season. The Hawks will be back in action in the Spring.
