Men's Soccer: Hawks Earn Another CCC Win, Beat Wentworth on Saturday

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's soccer team won their Senior Day game in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup against Wentworth, 4-0, on Bayside Field.

Roger Williams maintained a strong offense over the course of the game, putting up 17 shots and having 10 of those shots on goal. Wentworth was able to manage a respectable 13 shots, but the Hawks' defense held strong and only allowed three of the Leopards shots to be on target. The Hawks played three different goalies in the contest, with Hogan Cain (Nottingham, N.H.) leading the three in saves (2).

The Hawks started off the scoring in the 25th minute. After a pass into the box from CJ Sousa (Fall River, Mass.) was deflected back to himself, Sousa delivered a strike from outside the 18-yard box that flew past the goalie's outstretched hands and into the top right corner of the goal. Roger Williams followed this soon after with another goal in the 33rd minute. On a corner kick by the Hawks, the ball was sent towards the goal where Will Schiffer (Cotuit, Mass.) headed the ball to Jack Wildermann (Madison, Conn), who directed the ball into the net for the score to put the Hawks up 2-0.

Right before the end of the first half, Roger Williams converted on another opportunity. In the 43rd minute of play, a Wentworth defender committed a foul just outside the right side of the 18-yard box. On the free kick that ensued, Jason Salley (Durham, Conn.) delivered a strike that curved around the wall of defenders in front of him and found the back of the net, making the score 3-0 at the half.

Roger Williams added one more goal in the second half, once again due to a free kick. In the 72nd minute, Schiffer floated a kick into the box towards the goal, which Liam Blaisdell (Plymouth, Mass.) got his head on and deflected past the goalie into the bottom left corner for the Hawks' fourth goal of the game. This was also Schiffer's second assist of the afternoon.

Roger Williams (6-4-7, 4-1-2 CCC) will host Suffolk on Tuesday, Oct. 24th at 7:00 PM for their final game of the regular season. The Hawks will then prepare for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament, which will begin next Saturday.
