BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's soccer team played Suffolk to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday night in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship rematch on Bayside Field.
The Hawks out shot the Rams 11-9 in the contest, with five of the Hawks shots finding the net to Suffolk's four. The two teams played even in corner kicks in the match, with the Hawks holding a majority of their attempts in the second half.
For the Hawks,
Jack Avellar (Orleans, Mass.) had four saves in the match, while Xander Balog tallied five for Suffolk. The Hawks had five separate players with a shot on goal, with
Matt Bagley (Trumbull, Conn.) and
John Fogarty (Scituate, Mass.) each taking two attempts in the match, each landing one on target.
Suffolk saw Pierre Willis took a pair of shots for the Rams with both landing on target. Ricardo Feliciani and Tommy Handelsman each put a shot on goal.
In the first half, the Rams held the momentum coming out of the gates outshooting Roger Williams, 6-2, in the opening frame. Two of those shots came in the opening 5:36 of play with Handelsman putting the first shot attempt by the Rams on target. At the end of the opening half, the Rams had a pair of shots attempts from Willis, that Avellar was able to stop both from point blank range to keep the clean sheet.
In the second half, the Hawks controlled play, taking nine shots while holding Suffolk to three. The Hawks put a total of three shots on target, but Balog was able to stop all three closing the match with the eventual draw.
Roger Williams (6-4-8, 4-1-3 CCC) will await the announcement from the league office on their CCC Tournament matchup.
