BRISTOL, RI – The No. 2 seeded Roger Williams University men's soccer team was victorious in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Quarterfinal matchup, against the Bison of No. 7 Nichols, 2-0, on Saturday.
The Hawks held a 24-6 advantage in shots taken in the match with 11 of the shots from Roger Williams landing on target. The Hawks had five corner kicks in the match, with goalkeeper Jack Avellar (Orleans, Mass.) making a pair of saves in order to keep the clean sheet. Nichols' goalkeeper, Franco Barreto Santana made five saves in the match.
Dylan Thomas (Norwalk, Conn.) put three shots on target in the match, with one finding the back of the net.
After Nichols took a shot that was saved by Avellar in the 32nd minute, the Hawks transitioned from their defensive half, forward as the Hawks pushed the ball up top where Thomas collected, turned, and fired a shot past the Bison keeper taking the lead.
Just 40 seconds later, Will Schiffer (Cotuit, Mass.) found Ewen Noble (Newport, R.I.) on a crossing pass into the box. Noble then got a head on it scoring the second goal for the Hawks and securing the 2-0 lead.
After the half the Hawks held the Bison to a pair of shots in the half as they went on to secure the victory.
No. 2 Roger Williams (7-4-8, 4-1-3 CCC) will host No. 6 Curry, who are coming off a 4-2 victory over No. 3 Gordon in their opening round matchup, on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 4:00 pm on Bayside Field. The winner of the contest will take part in the CCC Championship match on Saturday, Nov. 4.
