BRISTOL, RI – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team fell, 2-1, in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament First Round matchup against Suffolk on Saturday.
The Hawks out shot the Rams, 13-11, with both teams landing seven shots on target. Roger Williams earned eight corner kicks in the match with the Rams holding four attempts. Suffolk's Arden Ferrari-Henry made six saves in the match, while Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) had five saves in the match.
Bianca Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) had four shots on goal in the match for the Hawks, as the goal she scored surpassed the 100-career point mark.
After playing the first half scoreless, the Rams were the first team to break through when Daniela Petronio put a ball on the frame of the cage. Marelli made the initial save, but Klaudia Rushi, then came in and finished the shot, taking a 1-0 lead.
Just over a minute later the Hawks answered with a goal of their own when Rachel Oster found Bianca Robbins on a break away opportunity, that Robbins finished.
Suffolk scored in the 81st minute with the game winner, after a deep kick by the goalkeeper bounced off the head of a Suffolk player, and rolled to the feet of Lily Goldmann, who buried the shot into the corner of the net.
Roger Williams finishes their season with a 10-7-4 record, going 5-1-2 in CCC play.
