Field Hockey: Hawks Pick Up Win Over One-Loss Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team downed a one-loss Plymouth State, 6-2, on Wednesday evening, defeating the Panthers in a road matchup, that handed the Panthers their second loss of the season.
 
The Hawks outshot the Panthers, 23-19, while putting 17 shots on net in the match.  Plymouth State earned four more corners, leading the category 10-6.
 
Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Kelly Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) each accounted for a pair of goals in the contest, while Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) and Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) each added a goal each.
 
In the opening quarter, the Panthers scored off a penalty corner 12:35 into the match, when Alessia Salzillo found Taylor Healey for a goal to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Shortly after the Hawks earned a penalty stroke opportunity with one second remaining in the opening frame, that Duquette buried into the goal, leveling the score.
 
Shortly into the second quarter, Rocheleau put a shot into goal, giving Roger Williams a 2-1 lead. With 3:11 remaining in the half, Doherty scored her fifth goal of the season, putting the Hawks up, 3-1, heading into the half.
 
After playing a scoreless third quarter, the Panthers added one in the fourth quarter, just 39 seconds in when Athena Comeau knocked one in, cutting the Hawks lead to one. From there Duquette, scored her second goal off of a penalty stroke of the game, and sixth of the season, and Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) found Timbrouck for a goal to go up by three. Doherty scored another goal with 3:48 remaining to close our scoring.
 
Roger Williams (9-2, 2-0 CCC) will host Nichols on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 3:00 pm before serving as the road team for four straight contests, with the first being against UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
