NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team picked up an 8-1 victory over in-state rival Salve Regina on Wednesday at the Antone Academic Center.
In doubles play,
Kate Hardy (Southington, Conn.) and
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) paired for a No. 3 doubles win, 8-2, and
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) earned another point at No. 1 doubles, winning their match 8-3. Salve Regina's Stephanie Davis and Madigan Murphy competed in No. 2 doubles, but the Hawks duo of
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and
Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win.
In singles play, the Hawks picked up five wins including a No. 6 singles victory by
Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.), 6-4, 6-1. The Seahawks were able to pick up a victory in singles play with Davis taking a No. 3 singles victory, after forcing a third set.
Roger Williams (8-3, 1-2 CCC) will host Suffolk on Friday, Oct. 6 at 3:00 pm to start a string of three straight Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matches to round out the regular season. The Hawks will visit Western New England on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 12:00 pm.
