SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team defeated Western New England on Monday, 8-1, at the Volvo Tennis Courts in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.
In doubles play the Hawks swept the three matches, with
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) earning an 8-0 victory in the top doubles match. At No. 2 doubles,
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) picked up an 8-1 win before
Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) and
Kate Hardy (Southington, Conn.) finished out the sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, the Hawks took five points, with Mancini moving to 13-0 in her collegiate career in singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles. First year
Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) also earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 6 singles.
Cahoon picked up the No. 2 singles match in favor of the Hawks, while Pecora and Santoro took the No. 3 and No. 4 matches in straight sets.
Roger Williams (10-3, 3-2 CCC) will host Curry to close out the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 4:00 pm on the RWU Tennis Courts. The Hawks will then await the bracket of the CCC Tournament, with action beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 17 with the CCC Quarterfinals.
