BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's basketball team fell to Coast Guard on Wednesday, 80-72, dropping the Hawks to 0-2 on the season.
 
Both teams scored 44 points in the paint with Coast Guard holding an 18-7 advantage in points off turnovers. The Bears bench added 33 points in the contest to the Hawks 17.
 
Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) led the team with 31 points coming off of 10-16 shooting from the field. John Ah Kao (Dumont, N.J.) added 19 points with four assists. On the boards Sean Gogolin (Winchester, Mass.) grabbed nine, with Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.) pulling down seven in the contest. Both Gogolin and Annus had two steals on the defensive end in the game.
 
Roger Williams held an early 6-4 lead, 2:21 in, but the Bears came down with a three by Mitch Shettles, to take you to spark a 12-1 run, taking a 16-11 lead with 13:41 remaining in the opening half.
 
The Bears led by as many as 19 before, closing the half with a 44-28 advantage over the Hawks.
 
In the second half, Coast Guard maintained an 19 point lead with 10:31 remaining, but the Hawks managed to cut into the deficit. With 1:57 remaining the Hawks cut the lead won to 74-68, outscoring the Bears 24-11 over the span.
 
The Bears held on, maintaining their lead throughout the contest.
 
Roger Williams (0-2, 0-0 CCC) will host Connecticut College on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1:00 pm in the Campus Rec Center, before traveling to face Wheaton on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 6:00 pm. The Hawks will then begin Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7:30 pm.
