BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's field hockey team was victorious in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament against Western New England, 2-0.
With around eight minutes to go in the opening frame,
Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the evening, her eighth of the season, after
Chelsea King found her on a set piece. Duquette then fired a shot over the head of Golden Bear Goalkeeper Ella Henry.
Halfway through the second period,
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) was assisted by
Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston. N.Y.) who put a pass from midfield into the scoring area. King then redirected through the legs of Henry, scoring King's 21
st goal of the season.
Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, Md.) protected the Hawks' goal with seven saves throughout the match off the Golden Bears 10 shot attempts. Western New England faced 15 shots, 11 of which were on goal. Henry was able to stop nine out of the 11 attempted attempts on frame.
Roger Williams (13-5, 4-1 CCC) will host No. 2 Endicott for the CCC Championship for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Bayside Field. This will be the first time the Hawks have participated in the championship game.
