WALTHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's basketball team leveled their record on the season, earning a 64-58 victory on Monday evening at Brandeis.
 
The Hawks shot 35 percent from the field, while holding their opponents to 25.7 percent shooting from the floor. The Judges knocked down nine shots from beyond the arc with Roger Williams knocking down three of their own in the matchup.  The Hawks held the edge in points in the pain, 30-16.
 
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) had a game-high 23 points, with six rebounds, an assist, and a steal in the contest, while 
Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) had 20 points on and efficient 7-11 shooting performance, including going 3-of-4 from three point range. Coppola also had eight rebounds, second on the team to 
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) who pulled down 14 boards, with seven points, a pair of blocks, and three steals.  Elie also had a game-high five assists in the matchup.
 
Brandeis took a 5-0 lead early in the opening quarter, before Galligan finished a layup, 3:37 into the contest, to put Roger Williams on the board. 
Abrielle Racine (Mooers Forks, N.Y.) then scored the first of her 10 points, with 5:13 remaining in the opening frame, cutting the lead down to one. 
Meg Qualey (Woburn, Mass.) knocked down a pair of free throws in the matchup to give Roger Williams their first lead of the game, 6-5, but the Judges came back to retake the lead. A three pointer by Mollie Obar put Brandeis up by two, and Lulu Ohm followed with a jumper for the Judges, to take a four point advantage. A layup by Racine, and a three from Coppola, gave Roger Williams a 13-12 lead, before Molly James gave Brandeis a 15-13 lead to end the opening frame.
 
Coppola finished on a layup attempt and then converted on the and one attempt leveling the score at 21-21 with 5:31 remaining in the opening half. The two teams were unable to create any separation, going into the halftime breakd with the Judges leading 31-29 after a three by Claire Candela.
 
Roger Williams was able to retake the lead in the third, outscoring the Judges, 14-7, in the frame. The two teams played a competitive fourth but Brandeis was unable to overcome the defense of the Hawks.
 
Roger Williams (2-2, 0-0 CCC) will open up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Wednesday, Nov. 29 against Western New England in the Campus Rec Center.  This will begin a string of three straight CCC contests for the Hawks, with road matchups against Suffolk on Saturday, Dec. 2 and Curry on Tuesday, Dec. 5 following.  The Hawks will round out the semester on Thursday, Dec. 7 at home against Trinity.
