BOSTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University men's basketball team took down Suffolk on Saturday, defeating the Rams 87-78, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.
Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) scored 24 points, knocking down 9-of-14 shots from the floor, including a trio of three pointers.
Sean Gogolin (Winchester, Mass.) had 15 in the contest, with eight rebounds, an assist, and a block. The Hawks also received double digit scoring from all five of their starters, as
Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.),
John Ah Kao (Dumont, N.J.), and
Philip Sughrue (Winchester, Mass.) added double figures.
After Suffolk got scoring started, Annus drilled a three pointer for the Hawks, followed by Gogolin with a layup to take a 5-2 lead. Roger Williams expanded their lead to 10, but Suffolk came back to cut the lead down to one, with 8:17 remaining in the half.
Suffolk held a three-point lead with 3:08 in the opening half, but Gogolin knocked down a three to level the score at 39-39. The Hawks expanded their lead back out to six, before Suffolk knocked down a jumper in the final seconds, as Roger Williams took a four-point lead into the break.
In the second half, the Hawks expanded their lead to as many as 13 in the second half, with 8:58 remaining in regulation, but Suffolk was able to level the score after Owen Walters finished a layup attempt and converted on the and-one attempt. The Hawks were then able to expand their lead, as they held on for the win.
Roger Williams (2-5, 2-0 CCC) will travel to face Curry on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 pm before hosting Fitchburg State to round out the semester on Saturday, Dec. 9.
