SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's basketball team fell to St. John Fisher on Sunday, dropping their final match of 2023, 58-50 at Blake Arena.
The Cardinals improve their record to 8-2 with a 2-0 record within the Empire 8, while Roger Williams drops to 6-3 on the year, with a 3-0 record in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play.
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) led the way with 16 points, while going 2-5 from three point range, with an assist and a steal.
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) had 15 points with 13 rebounds in 50 percent shooting tilt, with
Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) scoring 11 points with nine rebounds.
For St. John Fisher, Sidney Tomasso had 23 points, with six rebounds, going 7-16 from the floor. Katie Moravec had 12 points with a 4-6 performance with the floor while Joleen Lusk tallied i11 points with 13 rebounds in the tilt.
The Hawks and Cardinals battled back and forth throughout the first quarter, before the Hawks ended the quarter knocking down a three pointer, with
Chloe Richardson (Norwell, Mass.) knocking it down.
In the second quarter, the Hawks led by as many as four points, but the Cardinal's Sidney Tomasso finished a layup attempt to cut the lead down to two, 23-21.
In the third quarter, Roger Williams was able to hold onto a four point lead before, entering the final quarter. The Hawks then were doubled up in the fourth frame before falling 58-50.
Roger Williams (6-3, 3-0 CCC) will face Springfield on Monday, Jan. 1 at 4 pm hosted by Springfield. The Hawks will then return to CCC play on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 5:30 pm against Nichols.
