AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The Roger Williams University baseball team fell in both games of their non-conference doubleheader to Bethel on Saturday, dropping the first game 8-4, before falling 11-4 in the second.
The Hawks struck first when
Matt Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) came home after a wild pitch. Bethel then scored four straight in the bottom half of the inning, using a double by Nick Jurgenson and ta single by Kirk Hodgkin to bring in a pair of runs each.
With runners on second and third, the Hawks then saw
Mike Masino (Bayville, Conn.) come home on a wild pitch, cutting the Royals' lead down to two.
In the bottom half of the second, the Royals brought three more home, before
Alex Gulino (Ashburn, Va.) brought home
Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly. In the sixth Massaro brought home
Matt Falvey (Walpole, Mass.) with a single up the middle, before Tyler Koehn brought home the Royals eighth run of the game to hold onto the lead.
In the second game of the day, Roger Williams led off with a double by Morin brining in Massaro from first base. After a scoreless second, Bethel rallied for five runs in the top of the third, taking a 5-1 lead.
A three-run inning by the Royals in the fourth, gave them a seven-run lead, before Roger Williams responded with a pair of runs off a double by
Trevor Smith (Florham Park, N.J.) in the bottom of the fifth. The Royals added three in the top of the seventh, before the Hawks added a run in the bottom half of the inning.
Roger Williams (1-2, 0-0 CCC) will take on Crown on Sunday, Mar. 12 at 9:45 am.
