Baseball: Roger Williams Downed by Crown in Auburndale

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Roger Williams University baseball team fell to Crown on Sunday, 9-6, in non-conference action in Florida during their Spring Break.
 
JT Gunzy (Danbury, Conn.) struck out nine batters in 5.2 innings pitches, allowing only four hits, in relief. Matt Falvey (Walpole, Mass.) hit .500 on the day, going 2-4, while Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) added a pair of hits and a run in five at-bats. Mike Masino (Bayville, N.J.) and Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) , both added a hit, with Sheehan bringing in four runs.
 
Crown's Jacob Van Dam went six innings in relief, with six strikeouts and two hits. Howie Hatton, went 4-for-5 on the day with two runs and a pair of RBIs. Cael Magill, Rhys Dewick, and Tristen Ciarlo each had a pair of hits on the day. Seth Betts, Ashton Long, and Mason Brock, each added a pair of RBIs each.
 
Roger Williams had a pair of runs in the first inning with ma pair of runs coming in the opening inning off a balk and wild pitch. Crown responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, before adding another three in the bottom of the second.
 
In the top of the third, the Hawks had the bases loaded before Sheehan, hit a home run over the left field wall to level the score at 6-6. In the bottom half of the inning the Polars added three runs, which was enough to hold of Roger Williams.
 
Gunzy the came in relief to hold Crown scoreless over the 5.2 innings he pitched.
 
Roger Williams (1-3, 0-0 CCC) will face Ramapo on Tuesday, Mar. 14 at 5 pm, before facing Ithaca on Wednesday, Mar. 15.
