WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Roger Williams University softball team dropped a pair of contests on Sunday afternoon at the Diamond Plex, falling to Ripon, 7-5, and Lakeland, 5-2.
In their opener against Ripon, the
Raegen Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) pitched five innings giving up four runs on six hits, while striking out seven.
Isabelle Rosado (Central Islip, N.Y.) went 4-for-5 at the dish, with a pair of RBIs in the tilts, while five Hawks recorded a hit.
The Red Hawks were the first team to strike, when Abby Gilbertson added a pair of runs coming off a single to right center field in the bottom of the third. Ripon added another run in the fourth when Andrea Mihaljevich scored on a double, bringing in Maddie Hablewitz.
Roger Williams grabbed two runs in the firth with
Jaime Wells (Castle Rock, Colo.) and
Taylor Howell (Sandwich, Mass.) both brining in runs with well, knocking a double to center field, putting runners on second and third. Howell added the second, putting the ball in play to the shortstop on a ground out, but was enough for Rosado to come in from third.
Ripon added another run in the bottom half of the inning, but the Hawks responded again adding a run in the top of the sixth hen Rosado smacked a single to left center field with the bases loaded, bringing in
Kaylin Fehan (Plymouth, Mass.).
After a trio of runs pushed the Ripon lead to four entering the top of the seventh, Roger Williams began to rally, with runner on first and second after a pair of walks. Fehan and
Maddie Predaris (Rye, N.H.) then advanced to second and third after a wild pitch. With two outs,
Emma MacLean (Newton, Mass.) hit a single up the middle, bringing Predaris in for the fourth Roger Williams run of the game. O'Connor then drew a walk, before a double by Rosado scored another run, but a play by the right fielder caught MacLean at home.
Against Lakeland, The Hawks
Natalie Lundari (Flemington, N.J.), pitched 4.1 innings, with four walks, striking out three. Lakeland's Skylar Hall, threw seven innings on the day with a pair of earned runs, and 10 strikeouts.
The Muskies had a perfect first three innings from the circle by Hall, and jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top half of the third with Hannah Nelson bringing two home with a blast to left center field.
Roger Williams was held hitless until the bottom of the sixth when, Rosado hit a bloop single to end the no-hitter. The Hawks added two runs in the inning with MacLean hitting a single to left field and a sacrifice fly by Wells brining in the second.
Roger Williams (0-4, 0-0 CCC) will face Minnesota-Morris and St. Norbert on Monday, Mar. 13 with the first game taking place at 2 pm.
